Many people put a premium on the landscaping and maintenance of their yard. Not only does a well-manicured yard accentuate the architectural beauty of the home, but it can also create a warm and relaxing atmosphere that is soothing to the senses. In addition to the right combination of plants, flowers, shrubs and lawn, a final touch to consider is yard décor.
A homeowner can really dress up a yard and create interesting, often attention grabbing, focal points with a variety of yard ornaments. This yard décor can come in the form of whatever your imagination can conjure up. Old farm implements, for example, make great yard décor. They create an antique feel and will give your yard, or a section of it, its own personality. Imagine a rusty old plow, a pitchfork and a small windmill all with enter twined climbing roses surrounding a picnic table – suddenly you are transported to grandma’s farm get away.
Other themes for yard décor can be of a fairy tale nature. Gnomes and other mythical figurines or statuettes can give your yard a garden-of-magic mood. Crawling, flowering vines along with the aforementioned statuettes might create the perfect mood for an imagination-filled reading area.
Some figurines can be used as lawn ornaments as well. Small animal statues placed on the edge of your lawn near a birdbath, as an example, will underscore a park-like setting. A gathering of little squirrels might do the trick. Small bird figurines might attract their real life brethren.
Or your yard décor can revolve around a water theme. Flowing, circulating water, whether it is a fountain, bird bath or fish pond, gives a certain therapeutic, hypnotic vibe to any yard. A little makeshift pond, with or without fish, can be an area perfect for some of your more reflective moments.
Perhaps you want to take a page out of the ancient Greeks or Romans. Fill an area of your yard with small fluted columns, busts or statuettes of Venus, Aphrodite or any other mythological Gods. Well-groomed shrubs and nicely arranged flowers will make this area a real conversation piece.
In the end, your yard can be anything you want it to be. Your yard décor can speak to the festive for the entertainer trapped within or to the calm and serene for our own personal retreat. What is attractive and pleasing to you ultimately should guide toward your final design decisions.
