If you have a large lawn area to maintain, then you obviously need something more than a standard rotary push mower. You probably don’t have the time nor do you have the energy to mow expansive grounds with just the basics. The help you need could very likely come in the form of a John Deere mower.
John Deere was one of the first manufacturers to take the knowledge and expertise in the commercial tractor business and adapt it for the residential consumer. It all started from their basic John Deere model 4020 tractor and spring boarded from there. Their first lawn tractor enabled commercial entities and home owners alike to efficiently and effectively mow ever greater spaces.
One of the very first in the riding mower category that John Deere rolled out was the John Deere 140. It was sort of a mini-tractor with a lawn cutting deck attachment. This was essentially the big job mowing standard and was built from 1968 until 1974. The fuel tank needed fairly regular refilling as it was only a 1.75 gallon capacity.
The evolution of the John Deere mower continued from 1975 to 1977 with the model 300. These models were built to allow longer continuous mowing as the fuel tank capacity was increased to 4.5 gallons. The strength and speed was improved as well, as the 16 horse power engine exceeded that of the John Deere 140 (12-14 horse power).
The 17 horse power engine in the 317 series gave promise for improved power and performance, but these gains were somewhat offset by some lubrication problems found with the engine.
In the same year that the 300 series was introduced, John Deere rolled out the 400 series for larger or more commercial type work. These are the garden tractors that we have come to identify with John Deere. With power steering and a 60-inch mowing deck along with its powerful engine, the John Deere 400 could mow down an acre of grass in a half hour – an incredible feat at the time.
In 1983 the 400 gave way to the 420. Above all, improvements to its strength and a quieter engine highlighted the changes. The 430 followed -- slightly heavier than its predecessor and a bit more powerful too. The 400 series of lawn tractors essentially established John Deere as the standard bearer in the industry
Today, the John Deere mower is as reliable as ever. Their performance is second to none. And, they offer a whole range of riding mowers or lawn tractors to fit specific needs. Furthermore, in the event of any needed repairs, parts continue to be very easy to come by.
Take a look at the many options open to you today. Buy John Deere with confidence. From a humble-sized patch of lawn to college campuses, golf courses and the like, there is a John Deere mower for you.
